Confession of a Late Adapter
I'm sure you're going to laugh at me. I just discovered something fantastic - I really love tie-back closures. I know - silly, right?
I've always loved their simplicity and the way this type of closure looks, but, deep in my heart of hearts, I always felt they must not be terribly secure. Last week, I was shopping at our local paper store and one of the clerks was wearing a humongous double-strand necklace with over-sized stone drops - 40mm or over - closed at the back with a simple bow-tie. So, naturally, I accosted her with my questions: "Is it comfortable? Is it secure?" "Sure it is!" she replied.
So, after my year's worth of skepticism, I tried it myself with some heavy ceramic beads - and I love it. Comfy! Secure!
It takes me a while, but I get there in the end.

I too always thought it might not be secure. I'll have to try it! Thanks.

picture? picture?
you did it! great... and there is nothing wrong with being a bit skeptical/cautious... your reputation is tied (literally and figuratively) to any piece you sell... glad to hear it is secure...
Thanks, all!
Oooh, no pictures yet, I'm afraid - this one is slated for publication. But I liked it so much, I'm sure there will be another one using the tie-back very, very soon (I even bought more silk ribbon yesterday!).
I'm a recent convert too. A friend wanted a piece with a tie back closure. I was a little unsure, but wanted the piece to be exactly what she wanted and it turned out wonderfully so I made one for myself. Love it.
I already made another one! I'll post it to the blog today or tomorrow...
